What is Organic Sex also known as Natural family planning (NFP)?
It is fertility awareness, which is simply knowledge of a couple’s fertility. It is a means of reading the body’s signs of fertility and infertility; applying this knowledge through the Sympto-Thermal Method (STM) is over 99% effective in postponing pregnancy. A married couple’s virtuous application of this knowledge either to try to achieve a pregnancy or to postpone a pregnancy is called responsible parenthood.
Practicing NFP is 100% natural — there are no drugs, chemicals or devices involved, which is one reason many today find it to be a positive and refreshing alternative to contraceptive methods. NFP honors our dignity as persons by respecting the natural rhythms and functions of the body. It is very common to hear couples who use NFP speak of an increased awe and respect for femininity and their mutual fertility, and a greater sense of empowerment through self-knowledge.
It is a requirement in the Pittsburgh Diocese to learn about NFP. Attached to this post is a course schedule of classes offered in groups or one on one with teachers.
You can also take the course through Couple to Couple League- CCL which provides instruction that is both thorough and engaging. You’ll first learn the Sympto-Thermal Method, a modern, scientific and highly effective way to postpone or achieve pregnancy. With the guidance of a certified teaching couple, you and your fiancé or spouse will benefit from both their knowledge of the method and experience of using NFP in their own marriage. No matter which form of our class you select, you will receive our first-rate program and ongoing support while learning and beyond.
You can take the NFP course through Couple to Couple league via three types of courses:
1. In home with a Certified Teaching Couple in our Diocese along with other couples.
2. Live Online in a virtual classroom.
3. Self-Paced Online Course that you can learn at your own pace, and on your own schedule with your fiancé.
