Do you hear that? That is the sound of coffee being brewed, espresso shots being pulled, and rich, delicious milk being frothed for your signature latte. But wait, you might be hearing something else, too – that October 1st is International Coffee Day!
If you have been looking for an excuse to escape with your spouse to spend alone time together, then look no further. Celebrate International Coffee Day by sneaking out for a morning coffee date! A convenient reality of coffee shops is that most open by 7 or 8am (if not earlier) while the rest of the world is still waking up and before the busyness and chores of the day have to begin. Bask in the presence of your spouse and rediscover him or her through more intentional conversation. Arriving at your favorite café right when it opens allows for some quiet time and soft conversation before the morning rush. Remember, this is your time so make sure to relish every moment of it, take time to talk about topics outside of the ordinary, and dream about the future together!
We are blessed with many amazing coffee shops within the city of Pittsburgh. No matter where you live, a gem of a café is probably not more than a short walk or drive away. Here are a few recommendations:
Classic coffee experience? Try Commonplace Coffee (Squirrel Hill*)
Best artsy vibe? Look no further than Delanie’s Coffee (South Side)
Live in the North Hills? Try Convive Coffee (McCandless*)
Live in the South Hills? Try Reginald’s Coffee (Bethel Park)
Avid coffee lovers? Try Mechanic Coffee Co. (Verona), Café Conmigo (Wexford), Arriviste Coffee Bar (Shadyside), or Tonic Coffee (Lawrenceville)
Love indulging in pumpkin spice lattes? Check out the fall themed drinks at Cafetano Coffee Roasters (Strip District) which includes the decadent Pumpkin Catracho Latte
Want to support a great cause? Try Brother Andre’s Café (Downtown)
Is one of you not a coffee drinker? No worries! Try the tea selections and careful brewing at:
De Fer Coffee & Tea (Strip District*)

It does not take a ton of time or money to be intentional with your spouse. Something as simple as sharing a hot beverage for an hour or two to celebrate International Coffee Day can make a big impact in inspiring your marriage to THRIVE and who knows, you might even start a new tradition!
